#1. Renault KWID

The Renault Kwid has achieved an overwhelming response from the buyers with the car clocking 1.5 lakh bookings since its launch in September last year. Earlier, Renault, among many other manufacturers, was left red-faced after 7 Indian cars failed the Global NCAP crash tests.

Kwid is going to be equipped with ABS and 4 airbags. The Kwid is powered by a 0.8-litre petrol mill which churns out 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. It mates with a five-speed manual gearbox. The car is priced at Rs 2.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

#2. Tata Tiago

  • Price – 3.3 – 5.7 Lakh (Ex-showroom Price Delhi)

The latest hatchback from the Indian carmaker, Tata Tiago has been crafted on a new platform with a design philosophy never seen before in Tata cars. The Tiago is offered in both diesel and petrol avatars with prices ranging between Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Tiago delivers a claimed mileage of 23.84kmpl and 27.28kmpl for the petrol and diesel respectively. Tata will soon introduce the AMT version of the Tiago (around the festive season); the petrol AMT will be launched first and the diesel version will come in later.

#3. Ford Figo

  • Price – 4.6 – 7.8 Lakh (Ex-showroom Price Delhi)
  • Mileage – 25.8 kmpl

Ford India has entertained the possibility of launching a crossover version of their Figo hatchback. The stock Figo will provide ideal foundations for a crossover variant. The car features a 1.5-liter, 100PS diesel mill, which packs-in plenty of grunt to get the hatchback going and as far as the crossover variant is concerned, a 100PS variant will end-up being the most powerful offering in the segment.

Ford will also add touchscreen infotainment system to the Figo facelift that will be launched in 2018. The Figo’s pricing starts at Rs 4.5 lakh for the base petrol spec and goes all the way up to Rs 7.6 lakh (both ex-showroom Delhi) for the top-end diesel variant.

#4. Maruti Baleno

The premium hatchback offering from Maruti Suzuki is already a bestseller with bookings crossing the 1 lakh units mark and waiting periods leading up to 6 months on some variants. As per latest reports, Maruti is planning to ramp up production to meet the growing demand.

The Baleno is available in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha – and seven colour options. An automatic variant is available but only with the Delta variant. Rivals include Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20.

#5. Hyundai Elite i20

Hyundai has plans to launch the automatic transmission of the Elite i20. As of now the car is available with manual gearbox only. It flaunts projector headlamps, cornering lights and LED DRLs as standard on the Asta(O) models. The South Korean carmaker has revamped this car to rival Maruti Baleno, which has garnered enormous sales in the last couple of months.
